How to Play Poople
Poople is a word ladder: turn the start word into POOP by changing one letter at a time.
How do you play Poople?
Start from the given word and change one letter at a time, making a real word at every step, until you reach POOP. Fewer steps is better. For example, OURS → OUDS → CUDS → CODS → COOS → COOP → POOP takes six steps.
- Look at the start word. Every Poople puzzle gives you one 4-letter word to begin with.
- Change exactly one letter. You can't add, remove or reorder letters.
- Each new word has to be a real English word. Names and abbreviations don't count.
- Keep going until the word is POOP. Fewer steps is a better score.

Poople tips and strategy
Three habits that shorten most ladders. The examples use common words, which the official game is most likely to accept.
- Count how far the start word is from P-O-O-P. LOOK already has OO in the middle, so only two letters need to change: LOOK → LOOP → POOP.
- Get the OO in place early. Once the two middle letters match, the ending is usually one or two steps away: HOOT → HOOP → POOP.
- When you're stuck, change a consonant first. CORD can't take a second O because COOD isn't a word. Swap the D for a K and the O fits: CORD → CORK → COOK → COOP → POOP.
How is this different from the official Poople?
This site is an unofficial practice version. The official daily puzzle is at poople.io, with one start word a day. Here you can play as many ladders as you like, pick a difficulty, undo and restart, and replay any past puzzle from the archive.
Difficulty comes from the fewest steps we can find with our word list: Easy is 3 steps or fewer, Medium 4, Hard 5 and Expert 6 or more. Our word list (ENABLE + SCOWL) is not the same as the official game's list, so the official game may count a different number of steps for the same start word.
What is Poople?
Poople is a daily word ladder game made by Elias Furst and published by Poople LLC. It grew out of a word game his family played on long car trips. Every day there is one start word, and everyone races to turn it into POOP.

What is the best starting word in Poople?
You can't choose one. The official game fixes the start word each day, which is different from Wordle, where you pick your own first guess. To start from a word you choose, use Start from any word under the board on our home page.
What are some games similar to Poople?
Weaver is a daily word ladder between two 4-letter words. Doublets is the original word ladder puzzle, invented by Lewis Carroll in 1877. Both work the same way: one letter at a time, real words only.
