Poople Solver
Type a start word to see the fewest steps to POOP and every shortest path. Today's official start word is OMEN.
How do I solve Poople?
Type the start word into the solver above and press Enter. It lists the fewest steps to POOP and every shortest path, with common words first. The solver uses breadth-first search (BFS) over our word list, so the first ladder it finds is always the shortest one.
How does the Poople solver find the shortest path?
It uses breadth-first search (BFS). Starting from one word, it adds every real word one letter away, then every word one letter away from those, layer by layer. The first layer that reaches the other end gives the fewest steps, and every path through that layer is a shortest path.
Is this word allowed in Poople?
Our word list combines ENABLE and SCOWL, and every word is marked common or rare. The official game uses its own word list, so rare words can be rejected there. Use Check a word above to see whether a word is in our list and how common it is.
Why was my word rejected in Poople?
The official word list is narrower than a full dictionary, so valid but uncommon words are sometimes rejected. If that happens, pick a path in the solver whose words are all marked common. A cheat sheet only helps if the official game accepts every word on it.
How to play Poople again?
The official game gives one puzzle a day. To keep playing, use Poople Unlimited on our home page for a new random start word every round, or open any past puzzle in the archive and press Play this puzzle.

Can the solver work for any two words?
Yes. Turn on Custom target and enter any two words of the same length, from 3 to 5 letters. The solver loads the matching word list and runs the same BFS, so you can use it as a general word ladder solver, not only for POOP.
